The Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) released the 2024 results of its performance-based oversight (PBO) for insurance carriers.
This evaluation assesses carriers' compliance with Texas workers' comp rules, focusing on carriers that made 20 or more initial payments of temporary income benefits between January 1st and June 30th.
Carriers were measured on:
- Timely payment of initial temporary income benefits
- Timely reporting of payment data to DWC via EDI
- Timely processing of initial medical bills
- Timely handling of requests for medical bill reconsideration
- Timely reporting of medical data to DWC
Unlike previous years, where performance was reported by individual categories, the 2024 PBO results group carriers into regulatory tiers: high, average, or poor.
Of the 130 carriers reviewed, 44 were rated as high performers, 82 as average, and only 4 scored below average. DWC provides incentives for high performers while increasing oversight on poor performers.
