Healthesystems' Advocacy and Compliance team recently attended the NCCI Annual Insights Symposium in Orlando, Florida. This event brings together executive leaders and actuaries from the workers' compensation industry to hear the latest data-driven trends and projections which will soon impact workers' compensation systems and carriers.

Tracy Ryan, President and CEO of NCCI, kicked off the event by addressing the challenges ahead for carriers and the transformative role of data and AI which must be “guided by transparency and regulatory compliance.”

Walter Isaacson, this year's keynote speaker, enlightened the audience with his talk on Lessons from Great Innovators. He spoke of the “curiosity labs” in technology companies from the 60s & 70s, lessons from the Renaissance to the Modern era, and his thoughts on how our data is being used to create future AI technologies.

Senior economist Stephen Cooper provided up-to-the-minute insights on the U.S. and global economy, how the labor market will be impacted by immigration policy, tariffs, and debt concerns.

Jon Sinclair, NCCI Director and Actuary covered the topic of decreasing opioid use and what has replaced them (spoiler alert, it’s topical pain relievers and physical medicine) in his talk “If Not Opioids, Then What.” 

The NCCI AIS 2025 highlights report is now available, featuring recordings of each session and associated key takeaways. As Tracy Ryan stated in her opening remarks, the data NCCI is capturing today, reported by carriers and data reporters like Healthesystems, has enabled our industry to start looking at data as a GPS, rather than looking at it in the rearview mirror.
