On September 3, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) withdrew its proposed outpatient medication reimbursement rules for self-insured employer claims due to a technical error. While the nature of the error was not disclosed, BWC confirmed that the rule will need to be refiled, restarting the rulemaking process. The anticipated effective date has been moved to February 1, 2026, allowing additional time for review, public comment, and implementation.
Healthesystems submitted written comments in general support of the original proposal, recommending a 90-day implementation period for the new time-based dispensing fees for compounds. While many provisions focused on clarity and organization, key changes in the withdrawn proposal included:
- Introduction of time-based dispensing fees for compound medications.
- Reduction of the maximum reimbursement for non-sterile compounds from $400 to $100.
