On April 9th, Healthesystems attended the Nevada Senate Committee on Commerce and Labor hearing, where proposed amendments to Senate Bill 317 were discussed.
The bill, which focuses on expanding insurer provider panels, will soon include a requirement for the Division of Industrial Relations to adopt a nationally recognized evidence-based drug formulary for outpatient prescriptions, effective July 1, 2027.
Non-formulary drugs would be reimbursable only if use began before January 1, 2027, and continues after July 1, 2027, with reimbursement ending January 1, 2028. Doctors may request approval for non-formulary drugs and injured workers can appeal denials.
The Division would have to solicit public comments regarding the selection of a formulary within 120 days of the effective date. The Committee did not take action on the bill during this hearing, leaving further discussion and potential decisions for a future hearing.
If enacted, this bill would establish a new drug formulary that Healthesystems would implement to help customers manage pharmacy costs. Formularies play a key role in promoting appropriate medication use, helping to reduce high-risk prescribing, control expenses, and support safer, more effective care for injured workers.
