The Montana Economic Affairs Interim Committee will meet on August 29th to gather public input on several draft bills related to marijuana regulation.
A key item up for discussion is PD0035MM, a state resolution urging Congress to pass the SAFER Banking Act, a piece of Federal legislation that would allow state-legal cannabis businesses to access traditional financial services by providing “safe harbor” protections to financial institutions, lenders, insurers, and others serving the industry.
This Montana resolution states that passage of the SAFER Banking Act may help reduce public safety threats, improve oversight of financial activities, and demonstrate respect for state authority over marijuana regulation.
The committee is also seeking feedback on other draft bills that focus on technical revisions to marijuana laws. The hybrid meeting will take place in Room 137 of the State Capitol and via Zoom at 10:00 AM MT.
