Maine Legislative Document 82 has been signed into law, indefinitely extending the state’s PTSD presumption for first responders.
The presumption was originally passed in 2017, noting that when PTSD arises out of and in the course of a worker's employment, it shall be compensable for law enforcement officers, corrections officers, E-9-1-1 dispatchers, firefighters and emergency medical services persons, as long as certain conditions are met. However, when enacted, the bill had a sunset date of October 30. 2025.
The passage of LD 82 keeps this presumption active, while removing any sunset date for the presumption.
