Louisiana Senate Bill 213 was introduced, proposing a workers’ comp medical fee schedule.
The bill requires the Office of Workers' Compensation Administration to update the schedule biennially, utilizing RVUs from the resource-based relative value scale (RBRVS), geographic cost adjustments, and conversion factors.
For services without RVUs, reimbursement would range from the 70th to 90th percentiles of group health rates. It also proposes a streamlined dispute resolution and appeals process.
Scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027, this bill represents another effort to standardize reimbursement rates in the state after several years of unsuccessful attempts.
Louisiana has long explored adopting a workers' compensation medical fee schedule, but progress has repeatedly stalled. An effort in 2021 with FAIRHealth never advanced, and legislative attempts in 2024 either failed in committee or gained little traction. Strong opposition from healthcare providers, especially Ambulatory Surgery Centers, continues to derail these efforts, citing financial concerns and favoring administrative over legislative solutions.
