Illinois House Bill 1256 was introduced, written to restrict reimbursement for custom compound medications to a one-time, seven-day supply, payable only if no commercial equivalent exists and all active ingredients have an FDA approved NDC number.
Reimbursement would be based on the average wholesale price (AWP) published by Red Book or Medi-Span, plus a dispense fee set by the Commission. The bill would take effect immediately, if enacted. Prescriptions for greater than seven days may be approved if preauthorized by the employer.
Similar bills have been introduced in the past but have been stalled due to a lack of support.
