Florida Publishes Annual Workers’ Comp Report

The Florida Division of Workers’ Compensation published its annual Results & Accomplishments Report, highlighting 2023 claims data and medical spending trends.

At 75 pages, there is a wide variety of information across medical data, indemnity data, financial results, regulatory activities, and points of interest. The report includes a special breakdown of pharmacy spend, with the following key highlights:

  • Pharmacy payments declined from $117.5 million in 2019 to $100.9 million in 2023
  • The average payment for repackaged drugs continues to exceed $350 per item. In 2023, pharmacies received $407 per item, whereas physicians received $417
  • Physician dispensing of repackaged drugs increased nearly 10% from 2022 to 2023, while non-repackaged dispensing declined by 8%
  • Physicians received $65.4 million for repackaged drugs versus $775K for pharmacies. For non-repackaged drugs physicians received $27.6 million and pharmacies received $98 million
  • From 2022 to 2023 payments for compound drugs increased for pharmacies but decreased for physicians
  • Opioid dispensing has steadily decreased since 2019
