The California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) issued a Notice of Public Hearing to consider proposed updates to the Medical Treatment Utilization Schedule (MTUS), as outlined in Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations.
The MTUS serves as the primary standard of care in California’s workers’ comp system. Keeping its guidelines aligned with the latest medical evidence helps ensure injured workers receive appropriate treatment while promoting consistency and clarity in medical decision-making.
The proposed updates would adopt the latest American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) guidelines to represent current evidence-based standards of care for:
- 9792.23.2. Shoulder Disorders Guideline
- 9792.23.3. Elbow Disorders Guideline.
- 9792.23.4. Hand, Wrist, and Forearm Disorders Guideline
- 9792.24.5. Traumatic Brain Injury Guideline
The proposals are open for a 30-day public comment period in advance of the hearing scheduled for September 26, 2025. The Hearing will be conducted virtually via Zoom, and written comments must be submitted by that date.
