The California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) issued a 15-day notice of public comment period beginning on October 13, 2025, for modifying the text of proposed amendments to the Medical Treatment Utilization regulations. The affected regulations are Title 8, California Code of Regulations, section 9792.24.5 – which speak to traumatic brain injury.

The update replaces the treatment guidelines from June 26, 2025, with revised treatment guidelines from October 7, 2025. The key change is in the Compensatory Skills Training section (page 199), where the STEP program description was expanded to include both group training in problem solving/emotional regulation and individual sessions for attention and compensatory strategies training.

These updates help providers make clearer, evidence-based decisions in complex cases and align with the MTUS drug formulary, which governs medication access and authorization.
