AmTrust Financial Services released its 2024 Restaurant Risk Report, which analyzed nearly 130,000 workers' comp claims from 2018 to 2023 to identify injury trends in the restaurant industry.

According to the report, cuts, punctures, and scrapes were the most common cause of injury in the restaurant industry, with 31,938 claims reported, averaging $1,798 per claim.

Burns were the second most frequent injury, with 13,331 claims, averaging $4,326 per claim. Strains were third most common with 10,694 claims, averaging $10,672 per claim.

Back injuries – those involving a disc, vertebrae, or the spinal cord – were the most expensive claims to treat, costing $60,000 to $85,000 per claim, however these claims made up less than 1% of all claims.

The report also includes workplace safety practices to reduce risks and protect employees.
