California Releases Online COVID-19 Interactive App

The California Workers’ Compensation Institute (CWCI) released a new, interactive COVID-19 claims analysis app.

This tool features data from CWCI, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the California Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC), with information from approximately 600,000 claims from the first six months of accident years 2019 and 2020, including 14,470 COVID-19 clams through July 6, 2020.

When broken down by industry, COVID-19 claims were reported as follows:

  • 6,073 in healthcare (42.8%)
  • 2,305 in the public sector (16.2%)
  • 1,125 in retail (7.9%)
  • 767 in manufacturing (5.4%)

This tool also breaks down COVID-19 claims by age, gender, region, body part, and more, while also visualizing claims reported and claim projections on a month-to-month basis.

According to the tool, the COVID-19 claims by age break down as follows:

  • 3,997 claims for those aged 30-39 (27.7%)
  • 3,308 claims for those aged 40-49 (22.9%)
  • 3,298 claims for those aged 20-29 (22.8%)
  • 2,548 claims for those aged 50-59 (17.6%)
  • 758 claims for those aged 60-64 (5.2%)
  • 358 claims for those aged 65+ (2.5%)
  • 186 claims for those under 20 (1.3%)
