Colorado House Bill 1300 was introduced, which could enact major changes to rules on medical treatment and physician selection in workers' compensation. Highlights of the bill include:
- Shifting the burden of proof to insurers in medical treatment disputes
- Mandating adherence to utilization standards. Non-compliance may result in authorized treatment
- Requiring employers to notify workers of their right to select a doctor within 7 business days of an injury
- Giving injured workers 7 days to choose a doctor from an approved list before the employer/insurer selects one
- Allowing one doctor change within 120 days or before reaching maximum medical improvement
