Industry Wide Trends & Pharmacy Trends

Healthesystems has been featured in two articles with Risk & Insurance magazine, showcasing Healthe expertise to explore both industry-wide trends across workers’ comp, and pharmacy trends across medical management.

For the sixth year, Healthesystems partnered with Risk & Insurance magazine to conduct an annual Workers’ Comp Industry Insights Survey. The goal of the survey is to understand the trends, challenges, and priorities of the workers’ comp industry.

The survey was conducted at the 2023 National Comp conference in Las Vegas from September 20 to 22 and online through the end of October, collecting the opinions of 500 industry stakeholders.

While Healthesystems analyzes survey data to create an in-depth report that will be released in early Q1 2024, Risk & Insurance published an article highlighting the top industry challenges identified in the survey. They include healthcare provider shortages, workplace safety challenges, mental health conditions and coverage, and more.

Risk & Insurance also published an article featuring Healthe’s VP of Clinical Services, Silvia Sacalis, BS, PharmD, focused on seven current and evolving drug trends in workers’ comp medical management.

With opioid utilization decreasing over the last several years, there is no single predominant driver of pharmacy cost in workers’ comp, but instead several smaller trends across workers’ comp medical management to keep an eye on.

The article covers many of these trends, including dermatologicals/topicals, buprenorphine, anticonvulsants/gabapentinoids, novel migraine agents, and more.
