The Colorado Division of Workers’ Compensation introduced a proposal to unify all nine Medical Treatment Guidelines (MTGs) into one streamlined document, consolidating all medical recommendations into one place by September 2027.
The proposal was created to make the MTGs easier to understand and use. After testing changes to the Spine and Shoulder MTG updates and receiving positive feedback, the DWC hopes to apply this approach across all diagnostic areas. The DWC believes that this change will:
- Improve usability
- Clarify language
- Create greater consistency and efficiency
- Allow for more agile updates
At this time, a draft example section of the unified MTG is available for review, along with a feedback survey that stakeholders are encouraged to complete to provide their initial impressions by October 22nd.
A task force will collaborate in January with clinical specialists to refine the draft, followed in March with a broader stakeholder review of a full draft and survey. In July of 2027, a Rule Hearing will be held.
