California Senate Bill 1303 was introduced in February, written to extend the Naturopathic Doctors Act. Recently, the bill was amended to propose letting naturopathic doctors treat injured workers, but that amendment has been stricken from the bill.

This portion of the bill drew negative feedback from employers, insurers, and medical organizations, resulting in its removal.

The removed proposal would have allowed naturopathic doctors to prescribe medications and devices to injured workers but require physician supervision for Schedule II controlled substances. Additionally, naturopathic doctors would have been allowed to perform minor office procedures, such as the treatment of lacerations, incisions, the treatment of abscesses, and superficial biopsies.
