The Colorado Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) will host three virtual listening sessions to gather input on implementing House Bill 1300, which introduces major reforms to the state’s workers’ compensation system by 2028, including changes to access to care and treatment decision making for injured workers.
The proposed reforms will directly impact how ancillary services and provider networks are utilized and will impact compliance workflows and cost-control strategies. Engaging early allows stakeholders to shape policy in ways that support operational efficiency and better outcomes for injured workers.
Key provisions of HB 1300 include shifting the burden of proof to insurers in treatment disputes, meaning insurance companies, not injured workers, must now explain why a recommended medical treatment should be denied. The bill also enforces strict adherence to utilization standards, requires employers to notify workers of their right to choose a physician within 7 business days, and gives workers the same timeframe to select a provider from an approved list.
Each Zoom session begins at 4:00 PM MT and requires advanced registration:
- Oct 8th - Use of in-house clinics; provider list options for employer/insurer
- Oct 22nd - Provider directory updates, designation, and accreditation monitoring
- Nov 5th - Premium credit impacts, physician designation timelines, cost-reduction strategies
Stakeholders unable to attend may submit feedback to the DWC’s Education & Outreach team at cdle_dowc_communications@state.co.us.
