Study Finds Long COVID Linked to Productivity Loss

Back to Regulatory Recap

A study published in the August issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine has revealed that long COVID is associated with substantial work productivity loss.

The study surveyed employed adults from British Columbia, Canada who had a polymerase chain reaction-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection more than two years earlier. Participants who reported ongoing long COVID symptoms were more than three times more likely to report productivity loss and more than four times more likely to report work performance impairment than those without persistent symptoms. Among those with long COVID symptoms, the time lost was nearly 100 hours more over three months and almost 15% greater work performance impairment per week.
