Massachusetts House Docket 1457 would require health insurers to reimburse medical marijuana expenses, including costs for injured employees who qualify as patients under workers’ compensation. This bill builds on the similar but unsuccessful House Bill 1949 from 2024.
Nebraska introduced Legislative Bills 651 and 677 that aim to implement voter-approved medical cannabis legalization. The proposed laws would establish a regulatory framework under the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Patient Protection Act and Regulation Act but would not require the costs of cannabis to be covered by employers, insurance companies or workers’ comp programs.
South Dakota House Bill 1101 would repeal provisions related to medical marijuana that were enacted in 2020, effectively eliminating medical marijuana within the state. The original law passed in 2020 also allowed for recreational marijuana use, but this component of the bill was struck down by the South Dakota Supreme Court. The latest data from the state noted approximately 11,497 approved patient cards and 303 approved practitioners in early January.
