Idaho Bill Would Expand the Definition of “First Responder” for PTSD Coverage

Back to Regulatory Recap

An Idaho bill introduced on March 23 would add coroners, “medicolegal” death investigators, and qualifying coroner employees to the list of first responders eligible for workers’ compensation benefits for post-traumatic stress injuries.

SB 1425 specifies that eligible workers are those whose duties “include and primarily consist of the determination of cause and manner of death, including death investigation, forensic pathology and related duties, and supportive administrative functions.” This bill would allow these workers to receive benefits for PTSD injuries without a physical injury if certain conditions are met. If passed, the bill would take effect July 1, 2026.
