Washington Senate Bill 6039 has been sent to Governor Bob Ferguson, and if signed it would allow the Department of Labor and Industries to use electronic notifications for communications typically sent through the mail.
The Department oversees workers’ comp programs, work safety programs, and other work-related programs. Such programs are frequently criticized for utilizing snail mail, and this bill would allow the Department to utilize electronic communications, if the agency first provides recipients the option of receiving communications via a non-electronic method.
The bill has unanimously passed both the House and Senate, indicating it will likely become law.
