Back to Regulatory Recap
Hawaii House Bill 2387 was introduced, which would expand the currently existing cancer presumption for firefighters, and cover additional types of cancer under workers’ comp.
For firefighters with five or more years of service, the current presumption only covers leukemia, multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, or cancer of the lung, brain, stomach, esophagus, intestines, rectum, kidney, bladder, prostate, breast, female reproductive organs, or testes.
This bill would add:
- Adenocarcinoma or mesothelioma of the respiratory system
- Buccal cavity cancer
- Cervix cancer
- Colon cancer
- Pharynx cancer
- Skin cancer
- An expanded definition of cancers of female reproductive organs, including cancers of the uterus, endometrium, and fallopian tubes
- Ovary cancer (this cancer is now specifically listed, in addition to cancers of “female reproductive organs”)
- Thyroid cancer
